Transformation was an artistic research project exploring the use of realtime motion capture in violin performance. 

In the Dance Jockey project, we have used a full-body inertial motion capture system, the , for musical interaction.

Visiting researcher will showcase his latest Interactive Systems for dance clubs at the venue . There will be four systems at work that night, namely the wii-make-music , video jockey , DJ , and motion to music . More information below.

"Biophysical Music" is volume 1 of the new concept "MusicLab", a series of events exploring the science of music from different perspectives. The idea is to mix research and edutainment through hands-on workshops, intellectual warm-ups, performances and data jockeying.

̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Laptop Orchestra (OLO) is an ad-hoc ensemble consisting of students and faculty from the University of ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ and Norwegian Academy of Music. The main idea is to explore the laptop as a musical instrument in a collaborative setting. The orchestra performs the standard repertoire for laptop orchestras, and develops own pieces for different setups and constellations.

̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Mobile Orchestra (previously ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ iPhone Ensemble) explored the future of mobile music performance in a collaborative setting in 2009-2012. The ensemble was an ad-hoc group of students and researchers from the University of ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ and the Norwegian Academy of Music.

fourMs-researchers were heavily present at the annual yesterday. In addition to a lecture and poster presentations, we also contributed a performance with the iPhone ensemble and a motion capture performance. More info below.

This week's edition of the University of ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ newspaper Uniforum features a story called "" ("Research between art and science"), highlighting the importance of interdisciplinarity in research.

The interview was made in connection with a performance of the piece Transformation at Norwegian Academy of Music a couple of weeks ago. By moving inside a seemingly empty space, the violinist slowly explores a sonic landscape of thousands of short fragments of various violin sounds. The space thus becomes a musical entity in itself, a space that the violinist both controls and interacts with at the same time. What seemed to be an empty space at first, is left as a sonic space in our memory when the piece ends.
