Course content

The syllabus and lectures address the neurological basis of core cognitive functions in humans, including:

  • Perception
  • Attention
  • Memory
  • Executive functions

Methods used in cognitive neuroscience, as well as the evolution and lifespan changes of the brain and cognitive functions, are also addressed.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:
You should be able to:

  • Describe key features of methods used in cognitive neuroscience Research.
  • Describe and discuss basic level knowledge of the neuroscience of cognitive functions, including visual perception, attention, memory, executive functions and Language.
  • Delineate central aspects of the evolution and development of the brain and cognitive functions.


Skills:
You should be able to:

  • Read and understand review and research papers in cognitive neuroscience.
  • Formulate and communicate cognitive neuroscience knowledge in written English.


General competence:
You should be able to:

  • Identify and reflect on strengths and weaknesses with different scientific methods and analyses.
  • Critically evaluate the informational value of conclusions drawn in research papers.

If there are more applicants than available places, the students

Teaching

The teaching will be given as 12 lectures.

Examination

3 hours written examination.

Students may use dictionaries at this exam. Dictionaries must be handed in before the examination. Please read .

Language of examination

The examination text is given in English.You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about .
