The only venomous species of snake in Cyprus (and possibly the only dangerous animal on the island after humans). Its scientific name is Macrovipera lebetina and its locally known as fina or kontonoura (which means short-tailed even though it can grow up in length to 1.5m). Don’t be alarmed though, its not very widespread, it avoids noise and stays away from humans. Likes to deep shade and moisture under trees during summer and hibernates during winter.
