The photo was taken on 19th January 2013. Located on the west of Larnaca, the salt lake is an attraction for both locals and tourists who want to enjoy the beautiful view. Salt gathered from this lake used to be one of the island’s main exports but the rising labour costs eventually made it an unprofitable venture. Currently Cyprus imports all its salt. The lake is now a protected area which hosts 85 species for water-birds and it is the primary migratory passage through Cyprus. During the winter season it becomes a migration stop for Flamingos who feed on the brine shrimps that live in the lake.
